Baptism is a response to God’s love – a desire and a commitment to respond to God’s call to follow the example of Jesus Christ. It is also a celebration, a time to come together with family and friends; remembering that you are loved by God, are part of a wider community and have a place with God’s people.
In the case of infant or child baptism, Godparents and parents/carers respond to questions about the faith they have, and the faith they promise to share with their child as he/she grows. They make a commitment to raise their child in a particular manner, and to draw on that faith for themselves.
For older children and adults the questions asked will be answered by the candidate, or by the candidate and parents/Godparents together.
Godparents must be baptised members of a Christian denomination, Church of England or another church.
In St Oswald’s, Baptism usually takes place on the 2nd Sunday each month as part of the 10am service.
In St Helen’s, Baptism takes place on the 4th Sunday each month as part of the 11am service.
